Wilkin Senate Resolution: Stand With Texas

As reported in the Highland County Press:

State Senator Shane Wilkin (R-Hillsboro) Tuesday announced the introduction of Senate Resolution 273, which shows Ohio stands in support of Texas as the state combats illegal immigration.

"Our country is in crisis," Wilkin said. "Illegal immigration is affecting not only Texas, but our entire nation. It is critical we stand with the Lone Star State as they protect the border from this imminent threat to our national security."

Texas officials installed concertina wire at or near a 28 mile stretch of the border near Eagle Pass to secure the border and deter illegal immigration. The United States Supreme Court decided to allow U.S. Border Patrol to cut or remove this wire fencing.

“The Supreme Court siding with the Biden administration on this ruling is unacceptable. Texas, a sovereign state, has the right and duty to protect its border with Mexico as well as protect its citizens,” said Wilkin.

In December 2023, U.S. Border Patrol agents took into custody more than 225,000 migrants who crossed the southern border, which is more than any other month in the agency's history. The crisis is spilling over into American cities across the nation, including right here in southern Ohio.

“Every day illegal immigrants are allowed to pour into our cities, putting a strain on our resources, infrastructure and institutions," said Senator Wilkin. "In addition, these illegal immigrants are compromising our safety by bringing illegal drugs and human trafficking into our neighborhoods. Enough is enough.”

Senate Resolution 273 demonstrates Ohio's support of Texas and its actions to secure its border with Mexico. The resolution would be sent to the Governor of Texas, the President of the United States and Ohio's Congressional delegation if passed.

Senator Wilkin represents the 17th District in the Ohio Senate, which encompasses Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Vinton counties, as well as part of Perry County. Learn more
